This is just a FYI as I had just managed to get my own Acer 320U scanner up and running in Win8.1 x64. This driver also works in Win7 to Win10! I have an Artec 1236 scanner and I went through hell tracking down the problem. HighTechRedneck came close with his observation that these scanners won't work with any OS past XP. In fact, most manufacturers stopped making flatbed scanners years ago, which means they stopped supporting their drivers as well.

What this means is that most scanner drivers are 32-bit, and newer OSs are 64 bit. 32 bit drivers WILL NOT INSTALL on 64 bit operating systems - which, of course, is every OS beyond XP. FWIW, my artec drivers wouldn't even install on my 64 bit XP, which is why I started investigating this problem.
